PerAnkh – The June Givanni PanAfrican Cinema Archive

Raven Row, London, April to June 2023

We were asked by Raven Row to design and lay out vitrines and furniture to display the personal archive of film curator and programmer June Givannia for their exhibition showcasing her PanAfrican Cinema Archive (JGPACA). Amongst the gallery’s variety of rooms showing films and video from the collection, were 2 spaces for the display and study of the archive’s posters, festival programmes, videos, scripts and photographs.

On the ground floor in the front gallery we created a study area with a table in the centre flanked by two long vitrines, and a tall freestanding VHS cassette display to show the covers and backs of cases. Either end of the table was formed by a shallow tabletop vitrine accessible via a pull out drawer for regularly changing content.

Upstairs, in the best persevered of the historic Georgian rooms, we made furniture to form a simple reading room with a central brown painted table and simple shelves and a monitor screen desk against the walls.

All furniture was made by us from radiata pine panels and reusing Raven Row’s stock of vitrine glass sheets.
