Art on the Underground Print Shop
Piccadilly Circus Station Concourse, London 8th - 19th April, 2014
A temporary shop selling limited edition prints commissioned to commemorate 150 years of the underground.
Within a small curved kiosk space in the ticket hall of of Piccadilly Circus, we installed a structure on which framed artworks were displayed, as well as furniture for a shopkeeper & print storage. To emphasise the nature of the space as a shop, rather than a gallery, the frames were not hung on the wall but placed on the ledges so they can be picked up & purchased.
The display was conceived as being visually quiet, but of a scale sufficient to cover the unsightly walls of the recently vacated shop unit. All the surfaces were covered with pasted paper in reference to the posters on which much of the underground's artwork is traditionally encountered.
