Wolff Olins rectangular tables

White beech, & linoleum covered birch ply table top with beech lipping.

This table is the result of a commission to create new furniture for meeting areas and social spaces with a the studios of a London design consultancy.

Designed as a both a three and four legged table, the principle of the structure is like many traditional kitchen/dining tables. Downstands on the underside of the table top are connected by a timber corner block, into which the legs are then bolted and drawn tightly against the ends of the downstands to prevent them wobbling.

The legs comprise of two lengths of timber glued together to create a T shaped section that tapers towards the base. By slotting the 'leg' of the T section into the corner blocks the joint becomes rigid and resists lateral movement.
